Who Can Vote

According Tłı̨chǫ Grand Chief Nomination and Election Laws a person is eligible to vote for Grand Chief if he or she

  1. is a Tłı̨chǫ Citizen

  2. has attained the age of 18 years on the day before election day;

  3. has been a resident of Mǫwhì Gogha Dè Nı̨ı̨tłèè since September 30, 2019 except for absence due to medical, incarceration, education or similar reasons.

These laws are established by the Tłı̨chǫ Government. The Office of the Registrar has a responsibility to follow these laws. The Office of the Registrar does not have the power or authority to amend or make any exceptions to these laws. When + Where to Vote

Please take note of the many options available for eligible voters:

MAIL-IN BALLOTS

Mail-In Ballots can be requested for eligible voters who are away for during the dates of regular polls. If you will be away at school, on vacation, or if there is a chance you may be away at the mines, other camps, or on the land, please inform the Office of the Registrar immediately to identify your best option for voting at 867-669-0442.

 

ADVANCE POLL

November 10

Polling stations open from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at:

Behchokǫ̀ Kǫ̀ Gocho Centre Gymnasium (Sportsplex)

Gamètì Community Hall

Whatì Cultural Center

Wekweètì Chamber Room

Yellowknife: Lower Level Center Square Mall; across from the Barber Shop.

SPECIAL MOBILE POLL

Yellowknife - November 8

Mobile Polls were sent to the Stanton Territorial Hospital and the North Slave Correctional Centre. The Yellowknife Special Mobile Polls have now closed.   

Behchokǫ̀ - November 12

Mobile Polls will be sent to the homes of Elders or other persons identified as being physically unable to attend a polling station. If you or someone you know might require this service please call 867-669-0442 to inform the Office of the Registrar.

ONLINE POLL

Starting on November 11 at 12:00 p.m,

Closing on November 16 at 5:00pm

The on-line poll is open to eligible voters starting at 12:00pm on November 11 to 5:00 pm on November 16. There are no exceptions to this timeframe. There will be no voting allowed before or after these dates and times.

ELECTION DAY

November 18

Voters may be asked for their name, address and date of birth. 

 

In order to vote in-person, all individuals must follow all COVID-19 safety protocols, wearing masks, sanitizing hands upon entry and maintaining 6 feet distance.
